From Last Place to World Series

Tampa Bay went from last to first in one of the toughest divisions in baseball. They deserve to be in the big series.
I, for one, have counted them out a number of times this season.
They're a great story.

Here's the question: where have all of these Tampa Bay fans come from? Less than two months ago they were still averaging less than 15,000 per game. Now, you have a stadium of die-hards.
I guess that is just sports for you. It is all about "What have you done for me lately?"

I wondered that as I watched last night. I remember hearing in mid season that they might have to move because attendance was so bad. Oh well. That's human nature.

Kind of like ACU's football team. I have been at games where there probably weren't 200 people in the stands. Last week, when they played in Canyon, TX, they were expecting 40,000.

I haven't been to a game yet. I'll definitely have to wait until next season now (can't afford a WS ticket). But I have lot's of friends who have been going. The stadium is only about 30 minutes from my house - so I can testify that Southwest Florida is PUMPED!!!

Hey Josh,

It was nice to finally meet you in person at the conference this week.

As far as your posting is concerned, can you see how we as Christians can become band-wagon followers as well? I think it is easier for us to walk closer behind when we see "what he has done for us lately." However, like many ray fans, when we have a season that looks like we have more loses than wins, how close behind our master will we be?

Some quick stats from the Real D!

In 2003 the Tiger's averaged attendance was 17,000. With a season total of 1.3 million.

Oh yeah, they were HORRIBLE back then. They were one game away from being the worst in MLB history.

A couple years later a new GM, new manager and an open payroll the Tigers get to the World Series in 2006. You think winning translates to ticket sales???

In 2008 the team averaged just under 40,000 a game with a season total over 3 million.

Granted they had the 2nd highest payroll and finished in last place in there division. So I have a feeling that along with economic hard times they won't get close to that.

Who knows! If they start winning again (and I know they will) tickets will be hard to come by.
