This statement wasn't made for the dying people she was serving in India, but rather for the greedy people in the West.
You are right with your statement "I think I am missing something." I think all of us are. We weren't born into extreme poverty like many people in the world. We have been born in a country where the poor can still receive a free breakfast and lunch from the age of 5-18. In America, we oppress the poor...we make people poor...we exploit the poor...Josh Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17686297929735841523noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5630262561635378101.post-72181601482852913772008-04-17T12:29:00.000-07:002008-04-17T12:29:00.000-07:00I can't get the quote out of my mind. But is she saying that India and poor 3rd-world countries fight poverty better than the US and western Europe?

While I agree that we who live in richer nations tend to expect the poor to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps, it seems that many other nations simply accept it. Many nations, due to the politics within them, perpetuate poverty. In fact, some even refuse outside assistance.

I think I am missing something. They were some of the richest people I've ever met. I can't help it if that sounds cliché, it's the truth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
